Yes! You Are Creative - DAY ONE

Creating in the flow  - a great article on letting your mind just go and create!

Today is day one of the 30 day Creativity Challenge but don't let that stop you!  I am excited to hear what everyone is going to be working on and challenging themselves with.  Remember this is to be fun!

Another important component of this challenge is to communicate with the other 30 Day participants.  Post your work here or on Art MoB's Facebook page.

A few important rules or guidelines:

  1. Keep it manageable and small in size so we can hang or display everyone's work
  2. No judging of yourself or your ideas and or your talent allowed - just create
  3. Ask questions if stumped?
  4. Take no excuses from yourself - just create away anyway.
  5. have FUN!
ps.  my project will be paintings on 4"x4"x1.50" gallery wrapped canvas.  my subject will continue to be eggs for now.  And I still don't know what I am going to do differently but I am starting in five minutes!

EIGHT Days Until the Next 30 Day Creativity Challenge. WHAT IS IT?

For the next eight days I will be posting information about creativity...follow along and hopefully this will spark some ideas for the challenge.

cre·a·tive  (kr-tv)
adj.
1. Having the ability or power to create: Human beings are creative animals.
2. Productive; creating.
3. Characterized by originality and expressiveness; imaginative: creative writing.

Creativity refers to the phenomenon whereby something new is created which has some kind of subjective value (such as a joke, a literary work, a painting or musical composition, a solution, an invention etc.). It is also the qualitative impetus behind any given act of creation, and it is generally perceived to be associated with intelligence and cognition.

cre·a·tiv·i·ty

[kree-ey-tiv-i-tee, kree-uh-] the ability to transcend traditional ideas, rules, patterns, relationships, or the like, and to create meaningful new ideas, forms, methods, interpretations, etc.; originality, progressiveness, orimagination: the need for creativity in modern industry; creativity in the performing arts.

What is Creativity?

Creativity is the act of turning new and imaginative ideas into reality. Creativity involves two processes: thinking, then producing. Innovation is the production or implementation of an idea. If you have ideas, but don’t act on them, you are imaginative but not creative.” — Linda Naiman
“Creativity is the process of bringing something new into being…creativity requires passion and commitment. Out of the creative act is born symbols and myths. It brings to our awareness what was previously hidden and points to new life. The experience is one of heightened consciousness-ecstasy.”
—Rollo May, The Courage to Create
“A product is creative when it is (a) novel and (b) appropriate. A novel product is original not predictable. The bigger the concept, and the more the product stimulates further work and ideas, the more the product is creative.”
—Sternberg & Lubart, Defying the Crowd

The 2nd Quarter 30 Day CREATIVITY Challenge May 10– June 10, 2013

The 2nd Quarter
 30 Day CREATIVITY Challenge   May 10– June 10, 2013
Hosted by Art MoB Studios & Marketplace and Miriam Hughes

We invite you to join us in our 30 Day Creativity Challenge.  The guidelines are simple.  Everyone is invited to give it a try.  The point is to explore and try something new in your current medium, or a new medium or even an idea you have but needs community encouragement to continue.  Everyone has the spark of creativity that we love to see emerge.
For thirty days you will choose a subject and work on it in anyway you want to.  We will post our results daily or weekly (whatever works for you) on a special blog.  At the end of the thirty days you will have time to prepare your work for a opening exhibit at Art MoB’s gallery.  The exhibit will be up for two weeks and the opening reception will be held on Saturday afternoon, June 29th from 2-5pm.
All artist are invited to attend the show (of course, bring friends and help supply refreshments.  The first show was a huge success and people came early and stayed late.  Artists in the show sold work, as did many of the other artists in the gallery.

Guidelines, Concerns, Objections and Other Questions !

In order to accommodate all the participants here are a few highly suggested guidelines:
1. Keep the size small—for 2D work 5x7 or smaller is recommended.  Several people work on 2x2 to 6x6 inch formats.  Not only does it help you focus and complete the work, it looks great in the gallery as a collection of your work.
2. 3 Dimensional work should also be small, however if you have questions contact Miriam and we can help you determine what works best.  For example—ceramic artists create tiles, or small objects representational of their  style and large works.  Even practicing new glazes is consider a worthy challenge.  A fiber artist created a handmade journal illustrating through drawings, fiber selections and small collages how she went about getting ideas for her pieces.  She added a small finished piece (8x10) to illustrate the results of her one month thought process.
3. All work MUST be prepared and presented in the most professional manner possible for the exhibit.  That does not mean it has to be framed, but mounted in such a way that we can hang it easily.  Many of the artists mounted their work with Velcro or magnets on all thirty pieces onto a backing (foam core, board or sheet metal) and we were able to hang it as one piece.
4. Submit sometime during the 30 Day Challenge a short bio and a sentence or two on your purpose so Miriam can write all the profiles that will hang with the work.  We can add result ideas at the end, but this will give us time to have everything ready.  Do not worry about your writing—we will rewrite and get your approval before posted.
5. Have fun!  Be creative.  Explore and set your worries, ego and time constraints aside.  Make it easy and fun for yourself. The only thing we do request is that we avoid religious or politically offensive material.  We are pretty open however we want everyone to enjoy the show.  This does not mean it cannot be religious or political, just enter that territory with care and kindness.
6. All work must be received by Art Mob and/or Miriam by June 25th gallery ready.
7. Out of town participants.  You are more than welcome and we can work with you to get the work to us and back again.  Please contact Miriam directly on how we will do this together.  P
8. IMPORTANT please friend both Miriam M Hughes and Art Mob Studios on Facebook to stay in the loop!
